Safety Tips
Last updated: April 13, 2026
Solo travel is one of the most rewarding things you can do. Meeting fellow travelers makes it even better. These tips are here to help every connection stay positive — so you can focus on the adventure.
Before You Meet
1. Verify the Profile
Check that the profile has a real photo, a filled-in bio, and travel history. Look for verified badges and mutual connections. If something feels off, trust your gut — you don't have to meet anyone.
2. Tell Someone Your Plans
Share the meetup time, location, and the person's NomadSquad profile with a trusted friend, family member, or hostel staff before you go. A quick message takes 30 seconds.
3. Keep Communications On-Platform
Use NomadSquad chat until you feel comfortable. Avoid sharing your home address, full legal name, or financial information with someone you just met online.
When You Meet
4. First Meeting in Public
Always meet for the first time in a well-populated public place — a café, hotel lobby, busy market, or popular tourist spot. Never at a private residence or isolated location.
5. Arrange Your Own Transport
Get yourself to and from the first meeting independently. Do not rely on a new connection for your ride. This keeps you in control of when and how you leave.
6. Stay Clear-Headed
Be mindful of alcohol and other substances when meeting someone new. Staying clear-headed helps you make good decisions and read the situation accurately.
Trust Your Instincts
7. You Can Always Leave
If a situation feels uncomfortable at any point, it is always okay to leave. You don't owe anyone an explanation, a second chance, or politeness over your own safety.
8. Report Concerning Behaviour
If someone makes you uncomfortable, pressures you, or acts inappropriately, use the in-app report button immediately. You can also email us at support@nomadsquad.app. Reports are reviewed by our safety team.
9. Know the Local Emergency Number
Before every meetup, make sure you know the local emergency services number for the country you're in. Keep your phone charged and accessible.

10. Control Your Location Sharing
Share your location only with people you trust. You can disable location access at any time in Settings → Privacy → Location, or in your device settings. Your exact location is never shown — only an approximate area.
11. Block and Report Freely
Use the in-app block and report tools without hesitation. Blocking someone immediately removes them from your experience. You will not be notified if someone blocks you.
